ABC 15 & 3TV Chopper Crashed
The investigation is now underway to find out why two news helicopters covering a police chase over Phoenix collided and crashed to the ground, killing all 4 people on board.
ABC15's helicopter was lost in the crash on Friday, killing Chopper15 Pilot Craig Smith and Photojournalist Rick Krolak.
Krolak had worked at the station for 9 years.
Smith had been with ABC15 since September 2005. His dog Molly, who was frequently up in Chopper15 with him, was not with Craig at the time of the crash.
The second helicopter belonged to KTVK (Channel 3).
They have confirmed pilot Scott Bowerbank and photographer Jim Cox died in the crash near Indian School Road and Central Avenue.
Officials from the NTSB say they expect to spend days at the crash site collecting evidence and talking to witnesses.

Human Marvel - The Extreme Human Pincushion
The man in the video is Dutch Fakir Mirin Dajo. He was born in 1912 as Arnold Gerrit Henskes and adopted his name, an Esperanto term that translates to mean 'wonderful'. In 1947, at the Corso Theatre in Zurich, Mirin Dajo allow an assistant to plunge a fencing foil right through his body. The foil appeared to have pierced several vital organs and yet, the fakir remained relatively unharmed.
Needless to say, people were shocked, amazed and terrified by what they saw.
As word of his remarkable talent spread, a Swiss doctor Hans Naegeli-Osjord invited Mirin Dajo to the Zurich Cantonal hospital for study. Many people, including Naegeli-Osjord, the chief of surgery Dr. Werner Brunnerand as well as several other doctors, students and members of the press witnessed these tests. All were dumbfounded by what they saw.
In front of the witnesses assembled Mirin Dajo stripped naked to the waist and, following a period of meditation, once again had his assistant plunge the steel rapier through him. He then stood for some time, impaled, while the doctors examined him.
The doctors could find no evidence of trickery but many still refused to believe what they saw. Mirin Dajo agreed to an x-ray with the foil in place. The resulting image confirmed the legitimacy of his abilities.
Later that same year, Mirin Dajo was again submitted to examination , this time in Basel. There he actually allowed the doctors themselves to pierce him. Again, there was no evidence of trickery. Not only did Mirin Dajo insist that the doctors treat him roughly, he later jogged several laps while still impaled to illustrate his complete tolerance of pain.
Mirin Dajo was a very religious man and some media outlets labeled him a 'Messiah'. According to some reports, Mirin Dajo could hear voices, a spiritual guide. His public displays were often concluded with a lecture and a message of peace.
How was Mirin Dajo able to survive this repeated trauma? Who knows. Luck, faith, unique biology, mind over matter - your guess is as good as mine. He kept performing his feat for audiences. Eventually, to prove his talent was real while on stage, he took to being impaled by three hollow skewers. He would then pump water through those skewers. He became a human fountain.
It is not uncommon for eastern fakirs to pierce themselves with swords, many of them can push swords completely through their bodies. However, the majority of them do so through the fatty and 'safe' areas their body. The piercing feats of Mirin Dajo were extreme.
It is important to note that his unique skill may have resulted in his demise on May 26, 1948. An autopsy revealed that Dajo died of an aortic rupture.

Chinese Pork Bun 'Made From Cardboard'
Chopped cardboard, softened with an industrial chemical and flavored with fatty pork and powdered seasoning, is a main ingredient in batches of steamed buns sold in one Beijing neighborhood, Chinese state television said.
The report, aired late Wednesday on China Central Television, highlights the country's problems with food safety despite government efforts to improve the situation.
Recalls of many products imported from China have made the news lately, including recalls of pet food, toothpaste, toys with lead paint and defective tires that have been blamed for at least two deaths last year, according to news reports.
As for China's food safety problem, countless small, often illegally run operations exist across China and make money cutting corners by using inexpensive ingredients or unsavory substitutes. They are almost impossible to regulate.
- The Associated Press contributed to this report
State TV's undercover investigation features the shirtless, shorts-clad maker of the buns, called baozi, explaining the contents of the product sold in Beijing's sprawling Chaoyang district.
Baozi are a common snack in China, with an outer skin made from wheat or rice flour and and a filling of sliced pork. Cooked by steaming in immense bamboo baskets, they are similar to but usually much bigger than the dumplings found on dim sum menus familiar to many Americans.
The hidden camera follows the man, whose face is not shown, into a ramshackle building where steamers are filled with the fluffy white buns, traditionally stuffed with minced pork.
The surroundings are filthy, with water puddles and piles of old furniture and cardboard on the ground.
"What's in the recipe?" the reporter asks. "Six to four," the man says.
"You mean 60 percent cardboard? What is the other 40 percent?" asks the reporter. "Fatty meat," the man replies.
The bun maker and his assistants then give a demonstration on how the product is made.
Squares of cardboard picked from the ground are first soaked to a pulp in a plastic basin of caustic soda -- a chemical base commonly used in manufacturing paper and soap -- then chopped into tiny morsels with a cleaver. Fatty pork and powdered seasoning are stirred in.
Soon, steaming servings of the buns appear on the screen. The reporter takes a bite.
"This baozi filling is kind of tough. Not much taste," he says. "Can other people taste the difference?"
"Most people can't. It fools the average person," the maker says. "I don't eat them myself."
The police eventually showed up and shut down the operation.

(TED) Hans Rosling: New Insights On Poverty And Life Around The World
In a follow-up to his now-legendary TED2006 presentation, Hans Rosling demonstrates how developing countries are pulling themselves out of poverty. He shows us the next generation of his Trendalyzer software -- which analyzes and displays data in amazingly accessible ways, allowing people to see patterns previously hidden behind mountains of stats. (Ten days later, he announced a deal with Google to acquire the software.) He also demos Dollar Street, a program that lets you peer in the windows of typical families worldwide living at different income levels. Be sure to watch straight through to the (literally) jaw-dropping finale.
Winnipeg Pizza Place Serves Up Side Of Porn
Patrons must be 18 years and older to order from Porno Pizza, which delivers pornographic material inserted under every pizza.
The venture, the brainchild of local entrepreneur Corey Wildeman, is raising eyebrows in the Manitoba capital.
"We cater to certain crowds," Wildeman told CBC News, adding that he realizes not everyone would be sold on the idea.
"I'm pleased to see that it might not be everybody, but it's most people," he said with a laugh.
Wildeman said the idea of including pornographic photos with pizza is a marketing gimmick designed to sell more pies. And the gimmick is legal: customers even have to show identification to the delivery person at the door, proving they are 18 or older.
"They have to make sure they're selling to someone who's of age," lawyer Ian Berger said. "But other than that, get a little something extra with your pizza — there's nothing wrong with that."
While Porno Pizza crosses no legal boundaries, it tested some people's social borders, with some titillated by the concept … and others, not so much.
One woman told CBC News that the woman depicted in the Porno Pizza insert was "too naked," while another said porn is "something I wouldn't expect to have anything to do with pizza."
But surprisingly, Wildeman said, many of his customers are women.
"So I'm pretty pleased to see that a demographic that some people might think that we're offending is actually a lot more open to the concept than society would think," he said.
Wildeman said if enough people are turned on to the Porno Pizza concept, he has the naming rights for what could be a national franchise.

Electrified Laser Defense System
This Portal Denial System was created by Ionatron and uses a laser-induced plasma channel to electrocute anybody that steps in its path. It fires a laser across an opening to create a conductive stream of plasma which acts as a virtual wire. Because the plasma is conductive, it can be used to fire a lethal or "less lethal" shot of electricity, electrocuting anybody that crosses the beam. Unfortunately, this thing is only authorized for sale to the US government. It's almost as if they don't trust people to install these things in their homes. Hey, I almost got my VCR working, so I'm pretty sure I can handle something as simple as an electrified laser beam. C'mon now!

Air Guitar Pro
The Air Guitar Pro is a guitar designed for air guitarists that actually plays music. You hold the chord buttons on the fretboard and then strum the air. Infrared sensors in the neck detect the hand motions and it plays the note. If you're not into playing your own music it also comes with preloaded tracks. The final product will ship in July but importer HimeyaShop is taking pre-orders now for about $27. Although actually playing music kind of defeats the purpose of an air guitar. It's like having an imaginary friend who's also a real person. Who wants that!
DH1 Disaster House
Designer Gregg Fleishman has designed this DH1 Disaster House, which is a 14 square foot shelter built out of sustainable European birch. The entire thing assembles without fasteners, which makes it especially useful in emergency situations. Plus I've always wanted to live in a home random people could walk by and disassemble.

Kickbar Diamonds For Your Shoes
Are you a ridiculous human being? Then you'll enjoy Kickbars, which are jewel-encrusted shoelace clips made with emeralds, sapphires, rubies, or diamonds set in white gold. The Kickbar features a 2 carat rectangular bar fitted with 54 diamonds and costs $7,500. Although I can't figure out who the market for this is. Anybody dumb enough to buy a $7,500 shoelace clip couldn't possibly have $7,500 saved up. Heck, I'd be surprised if they had $7.50 saved up. The only thing they'd have in their savings account is a half-eaten hamburger.

Russia’s And World’s Strongest Girl
Meet Varvara Akulova, the world’s strongest girl. Now she is 13, but most of the photos featured in this post depict her at the age of six. She already was a champion at the age of four and expressed unbelievable strength. She comes from a very poor family from Ukraine, they were always short on food and basic things - but nevertheless she started doing sports at the very early age and at the age of four she could lift 220 lbs weights! It was so fantastic that The Discovery channel has made a documentary about her - “The Worlds Strongest Girl”. Since then each year her personal weight grew by 2 lbs each year (2 kg a year) but her lifting power increased by 25 lbs (11 kg) each year.
Sokushinbutsu: The Self-Mummified Monks of Japan
Scattered throughout Northern Japan are two dozen mummified Japanese monks known as Sokushinbutsu. Followers of Shugendô, an ancient form of Buddhism, the monks died in the ultimate act of self-denial.
For three years the priests would eat a special diet consisting only of nuts and seeds, while taking part in a regimen of rigorous physical activity that stripped them of their body fat. They then ate only bark and roots for another three years and began drinking a poisonous tea made from the sap of the Urushi tree, normally used to lacquer bowls. This caused vomiting and a rapid loss of bodily fluids, and most importantly, it killed off any maggots that might cause the body to decay after death. Finally, a self-mummifying monk would lock himself in a stone tomb barely larger than his body, where he would not move from the lotus position. His only connection to the outside world was an air tube and a bell. Each day he rang a bell to let those outside know that he was still alive. When the bell stopped ringing, the tube was removed and the tomb sealed.
Not all monks who attempted self-mummification were successful. When the tombs were finally opened, some bodies were found to have rotted. These monks were resealed in their tombs. They were respected for their endurance, but they were not worshiped. Those monks who had succeeded in mummifying themselves were raised to the status of Buddha, put on display, and tended to by their followers. The Japanese government outlawed Sokushunbutsu in the late 19th century, though the practice apparently continued into the 20th.
